ABOUT CLASSIC MOTOR CENTRAL

Our passion for cars and shared experiences has brought us together to celebrate everything we love about cars, road trips, and rest stops. This Chevy Malibu was my first ride. Fresh out of high school in 1979, she took me from Hollywood, Santa Monica, Lakewood to Redondo Beach, with plenty of great lunch stops along the way.  We would enjoy hearing your stories of cars, trucks, bike, or rides and road trips.

All vehicles  are welcome here.  We pride ourselves with the diversity our club has to offer.

Really, no vehicles are excluded.  Can't forget the 1963 Herbie the "Love Bug" from the movie with the same name.

If you like cars, trucks, bike, and more -- classic or modern -- petrol-burning or electric, we would like to hear about it.

Between all of our members, we have a diverse exciting collection. You can catch us all at a few local car nights as well as our monthly meet-ups at designated locations each month.

I still remember sitting in the back of a station wagon at the drive-in movies. While we cherish sentimental memories of our parents and their trusty vehicles, many of those classic cars still exist today and add to the nostalgia.

Driverless cars and service is a reality.

Waymo's Expansion

Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous vehicle division, is expanding its robotaxi services to Miami, with testing scheduled for next year and commercial rides expected to begin in 2026. This follows recent expansions in Los Angeles and planned services in Atlanta and Austin in partnership with Uber. Waymo's track record of over 150,000 weekly trips without major incidents has bolstered investor confidence, resulting in $5.6 billion in new funding from Alphabet and others.

General Motors' Strategic Shift

General Motors (GM) has decided to discontinue its autonomous vehicle division, Cruise, after investing over $10 billion since its acquisition in 2016. Despite initial progress, a serious accident involving a pedestrian led to a ban on Cruise's operations in California. The company struggled to recover, leading to significant layoffs and the resignation of CEO Kyle Vogt. GM ultimately deemed the market too competitive and costly to scale effectively, leading to a shift in focus toward developing advanced driver assistance systems.
